This our 10Th annual Youth Ag Day and it just seems to be growing, last year we had over 2000 students plus chaperone's. The event is free to all students all we do ask is that if they can afford their own transportation that's great, if they can't well we pay for it. For some classes this is the only field trip they get, and since we are more urban than ever, we feel it's important that they know about agriculture. I am not asking that any one of you sponsor a whole bus I will take any amount you can send. Either send the checks to me or to the SCFA...I will make sure you get a fully tax deduct able receipt. Alert! Stolen boat motor!

Alert! An outboard motor boat was stolen from a driveway Sunday night in the 500 block of Washington St. It was recovered Monday morning on Oddstad St. Missing the motor. Excellent work by Vallejo police and cadets!

Not in the Vista, but...be aware!

Just FYI -- A resident of the Vista Neighborhood reported that their older Honda had been stolen in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday earlier this week. It was taken not in the Vista, but from a health club parking lot near Magazine and Lincoln road. The car was found later that day in the Kohl's parking lot near Admiral Callaghan Lane where another, newer Honda had been stolen.

In fact, several cars had been stolen that day, presumably for parts. The thieves broke the ignition switch to hot-wire the older car and then used it to drive around to spot newer cars to steal. The theft in the Kohl's lot was caught on film and those committing the crime were described as looking very organized and very experienced, as they moved very quickly.

So, be sure to keep an eye on your and your neighbor's Honda's, use any anti-theft devices you may have for your cars, and immediately report any suspicious activity around cars to the police.

Award winning pianist and master storyteller, Richard Glazier, takes his audiences on a very special tour of the movies in this fascinating program dedicated to the Hollywood Musical.
Glazier’s show combines interviews (with Academy Award recipients Mickey Rooney and Celeste Holm), back stage stories, movie trailers, and piano performances of the music of the great composers---Gershwin, Rodgers, Kern, Warren, Arlen, and more.

Highlights of his program include a tribute to composer Harold Arlen with Glazier playing “Man That Got Away” over a kinescope of the 1954 premier of “A Star Is Born” at the Pantages Theater, and “Over The Rainbow” played over Harold Arlen’s home movies taken during the filming of “Wizard of Oz”.

Glazier also plays tribute to his friend Johnny Green, composer, conductor and 5-time Academy Award winning musical director of MGM. This tribute includes footage of Green conducting the MGM Jubilee Festival Overture, and includes Glazier’s performance of Green’s “Body and Soul”.

Glazier also honors his close friend, composer Hugh Martin, with stills, home movies, video clips and performances of Martin’s songs from MGM’s “Meet Me In St. Louis” and “Athena”.

Glazier’s tribute to Oscar Levant includes inside stories about the great pianist and actor, some of his most memorable quips, and concludes with a performance of Levant’s transcription of Sabre Dance (as Levant performed in MGM’s “Barkleys of Broadway”).

Other musical highlights include “An Affair to Remember”, Bronislaw Kaper’s theme from “Auntie Mame” and Gershwin’s “American in Paris”.

A few alerts:

On the evening of the 23rd, someone apparently tied chains to a light post in the 400 block of El Camino Real, sometime after 10 p.m., and used the chains to pull the lightpost out of the ground. It is presumed they did this for the metal.

On the evening of the 26th or early morning of the 27th, in the 300 block of El Camino Real, someone attempted to steal something from the engine area of a car parked a private driveway. In the process, they dislodged the front bumper and pulled out light fixtures.

At approximately 11 AM on Wednesday, December 28th, a male approximately 6-foot-tall wearing a red ball cap, a black hoody, jeans and white tennis shoes was seen walking down the 1200 block of Valle Vista Ave checking doors to see if they were open. The police were called but they arrived too late to question the man.

Given the holidays and the likelihood of people being away, everyone is advised to be alert and report suspicious activity to the police.

We had a large turn out at the December 6th meeting. A lot of great information was shared about the Vallejo Unified School District, especially the new 9th grade academy and its success. We also had a successful addition to the toy drive for the holidays. So thanks to all who attended the meeting and participated in these successes.

As a special notice - please know that on Tuesday, December 20th, CHEVY'S restaurant at 157 Plaza Drive will conduct a fundraiser for the family of slain Vallejo police officer Jim Capoot. The restaurant will donate 25% of all proceeds raised that day to the Capoot family. Please stop by for lunch, dinner or a margarita -- every little bit helps. Finally, as a reminder, be sure to set your home alarms. We rec'd one report of a home on Camino Alta having a break in through a rear window that was thwarted when the home alarm sounded. This particular situation involved three young men attempting to break in around 11:45 a.m. - one waiting on a corner as a lookout with a cell phone; the others trying to enter at the back of the home. The alarm sent them running!

The Vallejo multi-church sponsored holiday faire is coming up again next month - - it's the 14th annual such fund raiser in support of non-profit organizations, both local and global. Proceeds go to 16 nonprofits. Available for purchase will be fair trade gifts from around the world plus arts, crafts, gift baskets and baked goods from our own community. It's a great way to start some of your holiday shopping! Lunch is also served midday and choirs from local churches will be performing throughout the event.

What a great Halloween! Many houses were outfitted with spooky and delightful lighting and decorations. And there was no shortage of trick or treaters in the Vista last night. So far, we've had some houses reporting as many as 80+ trick or treaters! Popular outfits last night were super heroes and cartoon characters, skeletons, and fairy princesses.

Neighborhood alert from Friday 10/28: Neighbor in the 400 block of Valle Vista reported that someone broke the windsheild on his truck. The truck was parked on the street. Looks like no one else was bothered. But be alert!

Hi,
As we move into the Holiday season it’s time to have another meeting, we will meet Wednesday, December 1ST at the First Presbyterian Church at 6:30 pm.

The neighborhood has been relatively quiet considering the opening of the school year. I know it has been a little harder on the folks that live near the school. I am trying to get a contact at the school that we can go to if there is a problem in the neighborhood and hopefully I will have it at the meeting.

The Board, at the request of one of our members, has been looking into the benefits of starting a Community Benefits District. Greg Moore will speak at this meeting and will explain the benefits available and what we need to do to start one. The decision to do this will be a decision of the membership and not the Board. The district can be used for a number of things that could benefit the neighborhood, with the neighborhood having control of the process.

This is also the meeting were we elect members to the Board. If anyone wants to help out please let us know. Currently, we have two people expressing interest in replacing some of our board members. We will be having the Pizza party again. Please attend as we need to have active members in order to survive. I received this today, the thing they did with the car alarm was perfect. Their home is in the 700 block of Valle Vista.

If you could please distribute this to your members.
This evening at about 8pm, my 3 chihuahuas started barking (their
barks are different when someones at the door). When I took a look
from my kitchen I could see a tall man by my front door. He didn't
ring the door bell, but I think he looked in through my front door
window. He turned around, walked down the front steps & proceeded to
walk out my front gate, but he sort of paused, & I couldn't tell (bec
it was a bit dark) if he looked back towards me bec I was peeping
through the curtain in our dining room. He was either wearing a hood
or baseball cap & it looked like he had a sack or a huge looking
pilllow case over his shoulder. I looked for my car keys & turned the
alarm on & left it going for close to a minute.
A neighbor 2 doors up was outside when he heard my car alarm & said he
saw someone running.
To everyone, my porch light was on, house lights on & car in the
driveway. Please be cautious.
I called my neighbors around me as well as the Vallejo Dispatch to
report someone lurking in our neighborhood.

Theft in the Vista

I received this e-mail this morning, I have no idea what street it was on. The lights and camera's are a good idea and the fact that they filed a police report is very important.

I live in the vista near Tuolumne and Nebraska street intersection. Tuesday night after 11:00p.m. someone removed a honda xr80 motorcycle from my driveway. It was cabled and locked with a hardened steel military lock. The cable was laying on the ground next to the lock that had been cut in two spots. I filed a police report but probably wont see the motorcycle again. This is the 2nd motor cylce I have lost to thieves over the years, along with 6 bicycles. My garage is full and any overflow items I own are usually left on the outside, protected with locks but that doesn't deter thieves. I am going to install a new motion detection light on my wall near the driveway which probably would have detered this thief. Like cock roaches they do run from light when operating under the cover of darkness. I may install cameras after this last incident which may not stop them but may put a face that the police are familiar with, if there is a next time.
