Attempted break in/Theft

Approximately 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, 3 young males in a four door dark green Pontiac were chased away from behind a home on the 100 block of Loma Vistay. They subsequently parked on the 100 block of Camino Alto, apparently staying in the car, although there may have been an accomplice who walked up and down the block. When observed by a neighbor, they moved to the intersection of Camino Alto and El Camino Real. Because there was no crime in progress and the VPD had other priorities, the dispatcher was unable to assign an officer for about 30 minutes. Fortunately, the vehicle (license number 3GYK911) remained at this location until an officer came to take their information. It was unclear if they were just kids parked there or trouble.

We later learned that the VPD did contact the young people and they were ditching class at the high school. So VPD took their info and sent them back to school.

Again, be alert. This may help prevent a break in or theft and/or it may help some kids get back into school where they need to be!! :)

Last week as my husband and daughter left for school/work (7:30 am) I noticed that there was a young (early 30's at oldest) white female standing near the entrance to the cul de sac on El Caminito. She was taking pictures of the houses in the street. When my family went outside she walked quickly down the hill and turned on El Verano. It was very suspicious.

Reported by a neighbor regarding an incident on Saturday night: The window of my Toyota Camrey, which was parked on Hann St, was broken during the night apparently to get my brown paisley school book bag. I am a teacher and knew I didn't need it on Saturday night. The school papers had no monetary value but of course, the people who took the bag most likely did not know that or wanted the bag. This morning I've been kicking myself for leaving it in the car. I should have known better...

So, as a reminder: Please do not leave valuables in your cars, or easily visible, as these may attract unwanted attention!

NEIGHBORHOOD ALERT - Watch for intruders!

A note from a neighbor:

Thursday night about 8 p.m. in the 500 block of Washington St., we were gone about 15 minutes when we drove up to our home to find the 18 year old black youth from next door coming to tell us that he caught a young black male coming out of our back yard (actually our side yard) and asked if he knew us. The intruder of course said yes but when asked our names the intruder ran off down the street. Just a reinforcement that vigilance is a priority.

And thank goodness for good neighbors!!

ALERT: Individual scoping out homes or in need?

Keep an eye open for folks who may be scoping out homes, while also being sensitive to folks who may have true needs for help themselves.

Here is what we heard from a neighbor--- I am Vista Neighborhood newsletter recipient but not on the email notifications. I wanted you to know that on Sunday May 6 at about 6:30 pm a man dark skinned (possibly Ethopian or Nigerian, about 5'6") came up fast on a bicycle to our walkway on the 100 block of N. Camino Alto. I was watching him from our kitchen window as we were seated for dinner. He dropped his bike rushed to our door and knocked. I asked my partner not to open the door but she did not hear me and did so. The man was asking for something to write with and on and was trying to state he was deaf. When we indicated we could not help him he left. While this may be a legitimate request I am a pretty good judge of shady situations and my gut did not like this situation at all. Again, may have been random and honest but my gut believes this guy is working for someone to scope out homes. I hope it turns out I am wrong.

Petty theft and nuisance vandalism

In the 400 block of El Camino Real, two young adults in a rather new RED car stopped in front of a home. A young male with dark skin and dark hair in his early 20s got out of the passenger side of the car, ran up to the door of the home, knocked very loudly, and then tore a decorative, custom design wreathe off the door. The home owner then saw the individual go back to the car, and the vehicle sped off. This happened about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday May 9th. Be alert to dissuade this pair from doing this again.

She is shy and probably will run away if approached.

We rec'd this message from a neighbor in the 600 block of Valle Vista. Please keep an eye out for any suspicious behavior!

Two younger people (look like kids; Black) were driving a tan Lexus, appearing to be casing out homes in the neighborhood. One parks around the corner while the other walks up to homes.

This incident was reported to the police and is similar to what happened last week.

A neighbor wrote in: "On Tuesday, I was out all day fishing. When I returned at about 5 pm I saw that someone had tried unsuccessfully to get into my home on (the 100 block of) Mira Loma by breaking out the kitchen window. The police arrived quickly and took a report. The would-be burglar left behind a rubber glove and to me this suggests a minumal level of professionalism. This was the second attempt in two months. Everybody, keep your eyes open."

The date of the VNA Garage sale will be August 25 2012. We are going to have it on the same day as the General Vallejo Rummage Sale, so we will also receive the benefits of extra advertising and "extra fun" being associated with the City Wide sale.

We will conduct the sale as we always have, at our own homes, sale will run 9-3PM and we will be able to make donations to the North Bay Humane Society of our left over and re-saleable items (the NB Humane Society now has a thrift store "Happy Tails" where they sell their donations.) This has been a fun event for the VNA, and we usually have between 40-50 homes participate the day of the sale. It is not mandatory, but participants are encouraged to make a donation to the non-profit of their choice.

As the event gets closer to the date of the sale, Julie Lyons will provide more details and sign up forms.

Bravo to the Vista Residents! Please read the Saturday edition of the Times Herald today, page 3A. There is a report of a home that was broken into on the 300 block of Valle Vista. The owner was home and called the police. Guess who they ended up arresting? A teenager in a Burgundy Lexus. Sound familiar? The report says the police had previous knowledge of the Burgundy Lexus, and I believe this to be too much of a coincidence of the good work several Vista neighbors did in capturing the plate number of a Burgundy Lexus reported casing the neighborhood a few weeks ago. Neighborhood Watch definitely works!!!

Neighborhood Alert: Attempted Break In

Attempted break in today in the 300 block of Valle Vista Avenue. The police were called. A man attempted to break in through the back door of the home and was unable to get it. There was a person home when it happened. Someone who lives next door said the person climbed over their fence. They also reported that there was a suspicious man that came to their door on Wednesday who said he was taking surveys but had no ID and was trying to look into their home. Be cautious and aware!!!

Neighbors reported this as a concern today: "Around 11:30am today, my husband and I were coming home from the store and noticed a car (silver or tan metallic Honda) parked in front of our daughter's house on Nebraska Street (1100 block). We slowed down and looked at a male inside the car so that we would be able to identify him. We went around the block and parked on Fresno to watch the car. My husband decided to go into our daughter's house. In doing so he had to walk by the car. As he opened the gate, the car sped off towards St. Basils. When my husband went into the house he noticed through the kitchen window that the gate that was normally locked was wide open. A black male about 17 years of age ran up Fresno and down Nebraska Street. The license number of the 2 dr (possible Honda) was 6 AMP 335 The male in the car was clean cut w/mustache, black hair cut short. Looked possbly hispanic or middle eastern."

FOUND: Black & white unneutered male pitbull/American staffordshire at Valle Vista & North Camino Alto. He is friendly, has a large black collar with a small green leash that he may have chewed through to get loose. Please call 707-695-6302 ASAP.

Keep an eye on your cars: A story

A neighbor wrote in, "Forgot to report this to you with all the commotion of the last few days, but my Chevy S-10 pickup truck was stolen sometime early Tuesday morning from in front of my housein the 600 block of Washington Street, near Rincon.
It was found a few hours later, minus the tires, rims, battery, and GPS. The Vallejo PD were right on it, coming out right away for a report, calling me regarding the recovery, and checking up on things yesterday. A+ for them. You would think if you drive a 15 year old beater with 248,000 miles on it, getting it stolen would be highly unlikely.

Another neighbor also reported having had some tools stolen from their work truck around the same time. The individuals who took the tools apparently drilled into the bins around the locks (e.g., knew what they were doing).

Again, be alert neighbors!

The maroon lexus is back today, near Camino Alto. Again, the occupants appear to be looking at homes in a suspicious manner. Be alert!

ALERT: Suspicious Activity (Maroon Lexus)

A neighbor reported some suspicious behavior on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

They said they pulled up in front of their home and noticed a young man heading up the walkway to our front door. They immediately got out of the car and asked if they could help him. He said, “Does Josh live here?”. I said “There is no Josh here.” He then inquired “Where is ###?” and looked across the street at ### and said, “Oh there it is….” He then turned and walked back to a waiting late model maroon Lexus (with dark tinted windows)……with an older male at the wheel.

The neighbor reasoned, "IF he indeed was actually looking for that ### on Camino Alto he would have gone there……BUT he did NOT…..he got into the waiting Lexus and drove away!" Then added, "In speaking with another neighbor she said that this same young man in the Lexus had been “cruising” the neighborhood more than once prior to my interaction with him."

SO be on the lookout for a late model maroon Lexus with tinted windows…..AND get the license plate for future reference if you see it and tell Rich Martinez!
